Intro to Research

This tutorial orients students to college-level research and teaches basic research concepts including the CRAAP criteria and types of sources. This tutorial is a package of the following Spark Tutorials:

Learning Objectives

Learners will be able to:

  • Identify the meaning of the analogy “scholarship is a conversation” from a list.
  • Identify at least three characteristics of a fluent information researcher from a list.
  • Distinguish between types of sources (i.e. scholarly journals, popular periodicals, trade journals).
  • Identify definition of “peer review” from a list.
  • Recall what each letter of the “CRAAP” acronym stands for.
  • Apply “CRAAP Test” criteria to a given web page to determine if it is an authoritative source.

This tutorial supports the following ACRL Frames:

  • Scholarship is a conversation
  • Authority is constructed and contextual
